Kuala Lumpur, 17 September 2026 – Tan Chong Motor Holdings is exploring electric vehicle battery pack localisation in Malaysia through a memorandum of understanding with China-based Saike REPT Power Battery System. The agreement begins an evaluation process rather than committing the parties to a production line, capital budget or commercial manufacturing timetable.
Tan Chong’s indirect wholly owned subsidiary and Saike will conduct feasibility studies covering battery packs and selected EV components, including those used in TQ Wuling vehicles. The proposed collaboration also considers overseas supply opportunities and the handling, recycling and second-life utilisation of used packs. The MOU has a 12-month term unless extended or terminated earlier by mutual agreement.
