Beijing, 17 September 2026 – President Xi Jinping has called for China to expand and strengthen advanced manufacturing while improving control over key industrial supply chains. His remarks place industrial capability and technological autonomy at the centre of the country’s development priorities, giving Asian businesses another policy signal to consider when evaluating production networks, equipment investment and competitive exposure.
Speaking in remarks delivered at the National Advanced Manufacturing Conference in Beijing this week, Xi urged the construction of a modern industrial system with advanced manufacturing as its backbone. He emphasised greater autonomy and controllability across industrial chains.
