Last updated on September 5, 2025

Milan/Rome, September 4, 2025 — The fashion world mourned today as iconic Italian designer Giorgio Armani passed away at the age of 91, according to a statement confirmed by Reuters and multiple Italian media outlets. Armani, the visionary founder of the eponymous fashion house, pioneered a timeless aesthetic known for elegant tailoring and clean lines that transformed both menswear and women’s fashion.

Born in Piacenza in 1934, Armani turned down a medical career to pursue fashion—first working at La Rinascente and later under Nino Cerruti. In 1975, he launched “Giorgio Armani” with partner Sergio Galeotti, introducing an understated yet luxurious look that conquered global runways and redefined modern elegance.

For five decades, Armani personally led his empire, serving as both creative director and sole CEO. In 2024, the business generated approximately €2.3 billion in revenue, with designs that expanded into beauty, homeware, hotels, and lifestyle ventures.  Prior to his passing, he had publicly outlined a gradual succession plan, intending a smooth handover to trusted collaborators and family to preserve his legacy’s integrity.

Armani’s influence shaped not only red-carpet couture but also corporate dressing—with his minimalist, relaxed tailoring becoming symbolic of understated power. His work remains a touchstone in fashion education and industry.
