Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 18 August 2026 – Bursa Malaysia opened modestly higher as Maybank led buying in heavyweight counters, but the narrow advance showed that investors remained selective. The market was also contending with renewed geopolitical tensions and a crucial stage of the quarterly earnings season.
The FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI rose 1.83 points, or about 0.1%, to 1,727.72 at 9.14am, after opening at 1,727.52. Maybank contributed 13.18 points to the composite index and gained two sen to RM10.60. The move gave the benchmark an early lift even as other major banks and utilities traded unevenly.
