Sydney, Australia, 17 August 2026 – Australia’s corporate regulator is warning that artificial-intelligence-generated deepfakes are making investment scams more convincing, scalable and difficult to detect as criminals impersonate celebrities, politicians, financial institutions and market experts.
Scammers commonly use polished social-media advertisements or fake news pages to direct targets into messaging groups. Fraudsters then pose as experts or assistants, promote supposed investment opportunities and use fabricated testimonials to create urgency and social proof.
