Kuala Lumpur, 16 August 2026 – Malaysia’s economy expanded 6% year on year in the second quarter of 2026, accelerating from 5.4% in the first quarter and exceeding both the 5.8% advance estimate and market expectations. The stronger result lifted first-half growth to 5.7% and prompted several research houses to revise their full-year projections.

Kenanga Research raised its 2026 forecast to 5.3% from a previous range of 4.5% to 5%, while MBSB Research lifted its estimate to 5.1% from 4.5%. RHB Research retained a more bullish 5.4% projection, above the government’s 4% to 4.5% range and Bank Negara Malaysia’s 4% to 5% forecast. JPMorgan had already moved its estimate to 5.3% from 5% following the earlier advance reading.
