New York, 16 August 2026 – Delegates concluded a 10-day session on a proposed United Nations tax framework. Supporters estimate a pay-where-you-play approach could raise an additional US$500 billion a year by taxing multinational profits where economic activity occurs.
Developing economies often host consumers, labour, resources or production while receiving a smaller share of taxable profit. A broader negotiating forum could give these countries more influence over allocation rules.
