Singapore Tightens Trade-Compliance Message as US Scrutinises Transshipment

Singapore, 15 August 2026 – Singapore has reiterated that it will take firm action against companies that misuse the city-state to circumvent foreign trade rules, after the United States identified more than 40 economies as potential conduits for avoiding tariffs on Chinese goods.

The Ministry of Trade and Industry said Singapore’s competitiveness rests on rule of law, transparent regulation and zero tolerance for fraud, corruption and criminal activity. It rejected the idea that companies may use an association with Singapore to violate the rules of other jurisdictions and said businesses transhipping goods through the country must comply fully with local requirements.
