Malaysia Accelerates AI Nation 2030 Ambition as Digital Economy Targets 30% GDP Contribution

Petaling Jaya, 15 August 2026 – Malaysia is accelerating its transition toward becoming a regional artificial intelligence powerhouse by 2030, anchored by nationwide talent reskilling, digital infrastructure expansion, and grassroots digital adoption, Minister of Digital Gobind Singh Deo announced on Saturday.

Speaking at the opening of the PJ Startup Festival 2026 at Dewan Sivik MBPJ, Gobind reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring the digital economy contributes 30 percent to Malaysia’s gross domestic product (GDP). The minister emphasized that digital transformation has evolved beyond high-level policy frameworks into tangible everyday economic benefits for businesses and citizens across the country.
