Malaysia Airports Brings East Malaysia Projects Into Earlier Procurement View

Kota Kinabalu, 14 August 2026 – Malaysia Airports is bringing earlier visibility of airport development projects and procurement opportunities to East Malaysia, giving contractors and suppliers more time to prepare for a growing infrastructure pipeline. The approach is intended to improve market readiness before tenders are issued, reducing the risk that complex projects are delayed by weak capacity or late engagement.

The initiative extends a procurement and project-showcase model that has outlined approximately RM11 billion of capital expenditure across Malaysia Airports’ network over five years. Major plans include capacity expansion, asset renewal, passenger-experience improvements, smart-airport technology and sustainability infrastructure. East Malaysian airports are strategically important because aviation carries a larger share of regional connectivity where distances are long and surface transport alternatives are limited.
