Jakarta, 14 August 2026 – President Prabowo Subianto has expressed confidence that Indonesia’s economy can grow 6% in 2026, setting an ambitious benchmark for Southeast Asia’s largest market. The target is above the pace Indonesia has generally maintained in recent years and therefore depends on stronger investment, consumption, exports and policy execution working together.
Government optimism rests partly on domestic demand and efforts to improve efficiency. Indonesia’s large population gives it a powerful consumption base, while infrastructure, downstream processing and industrial policy can support investment. A stronger growth rate would improve corporate revenues and fiscal capacity, but only if gains are broad enough to lift productivity and household income.
