Hong Kong, 14 August 2026 – Hong Kong is preparing to list its first bond from the Shanghai free-trade zone, expanding the channels that connect mainland financing with international investors and reinforcing the city’s role as an offshore renminbi centre. The transaction adds another instrument to a market increasingly shaped by cross-border bond access, liquidity support and risk-management products.
Shanghai’s free-trade offshore bond framework is designed to help eligible issuers raise funds from offshore investors while using infrastructure linked to the mainland financial system. Listing such a bond in Hong Kong gives international institutions a familiar venue and broadens the city’s renminbi product range at a time when regional financial centres are competing for Chinese capital flows.
