Apple Tests China’s CXMT Memory Chips for iPhones and MacBooks Amid Global AI Supply Crunch

Cupertino, 9 August 2026 – Technology giant Apple has initiated technical testing and validation of DRAM memory chips manufactured by ChangXin Memory Technologies, mainland China’s largest domestic memory producer, across core product lines including iPhones and MacBooks. The preliminary testing phase reflects a strategic effort by the consumer hardware maker to mitigate a widening global component shortage and rising input costs fueled by the artificial intelligence infrastructure boom.

Preliminary discussions between Apple and ChangXin Memory Technologies have focused on securing component supply agreements specifically for consumer devices assembled and sold within the Chinese domestic market. By qualifying a fourth major memory supplier alongside established global industry leaders Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, and Micron Technology, Apple seeks to diversify its component procurement architecture, reduce supply chain bottlenecks, and establish crucial pricing leverage amid persistent industry-wide component tightness.
