PREMIUMDBS CEO Sees Falling AI Unit Costs as Token Use Accelerates

Singapore, 7 August 2026 – DBS Group Chief Executive Officer Tan Su Shan expects the cost of using artificial intelligence to decline as adoption expands, presenting companies with a paradox in which cheaper computing encourages significantly greater consumption.

The dynamic resembles the economic principle known as the Jevons paradox: when a resource becomes more efficient and affordable, demand can rise quickly enough to offset or even exceed the savings. For enterprises adopting generative and agentic AI, this means the price of processing each token may fall while total technology spending continues to increase.
