OpenAI Seeks Dismissal of Apple Trade-Secrets Lawsuit

Bengaluru, 5 August 2026 – OpenAI has asked a United States judge to dismiss Apple’s trade-secrets lawsuit, arguing that the iPhone maker failed to identify protected information or plausibly explain how the ChatGPT developer misappropriated it while expanding into consumer hardware.

Apple filed its complaint in July against OpenAI and two former Apple employees. The company alleged that OpenAI systematically obtained and exploited confidential information through employee recruitment and supplier relationships to accelerate its entry into AI-powered devices.
