Washington, United States, 6 August 2026 – The United States administration is preparing a 15% tariff linked to a polysilicon trade probe, a measure aimed at countering Chinese industrial dominance but likely to increase cost pressure across the solar-manufacturing chain.
Polysilicon is the foundational material used to produce wafers and cells for most photovoltaic modules. China controls a large share of global production and has built scale across refining, wafers, cells and finished panels. A new tariff would therefore reach beyond one commodity, influencing procurement decisions for manufacturers, project developers and utilities.
