New York, 5 August 2026 – SpaceX’s rapid expansion into artificial intelligence is unsettling investors despite a strong rise in quarterly revenue, exposing the tension between the cash-generating power of Starlink and the capital required to build an AI and space-computing platform.

Revenue for the quarter ended in June rose 92% year on year to US$7.81 billion, exceeding market expectations. The company nevertheless reported a US$541 million loss as infrastructure and research spending increased sharply. Spending on infrastructure and research reached US$18 billion, compared with less than US$3 billion a year earlier, reflecting the scale of management’s ambitions.
