SK Hynix Profit Miss Shows AI Chip Expectations Have Reached Extremes

Seoul, 29 July 2026 – SK Hynix reported an extraordinary quarterly profit but still fell short of the market’s elevated forecast, illustrating how demanding investor expectations have become across the artificial-intelligence semiconductor cycle.

The South Korean memory-chip maker posted operating profit of about 60.5 trillion won for the April-to-June period, up sharply from 9.2 trillion won a year earlier. The result nevertheless missed an estimate near 64 trillion won, and the shares fell as investors reassessed the pace and financing of AI infrastructure spending.
