Malaysia Anchors AI Ambitions in Schools as NAIO Takes Permanent Role

Putrajaya, 28 July 2026 – Malaysia’s ambition to become a leading artificial intelligence nation will depend on preparing students through stronger mathematics, science and technology education, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said as the government institutionalised the National Artificial Intelligence Office.

Anwar said establishing a national AI institution would carry limited value unless the country simultaneously developed students’ capabilities from primary and secondary school. Schools, he added, remain the foundation of Malaysia’s longer-term technological transformation.
