Singapore, 28 July 2026 – Asian markets fell sharply on Tuesday as investors reassessed the financial demands of the artificial intelligence boom, sending semiconductor shares lower and increasing caution ahead of the Federal Reserve’s monetary policy decision.
South Korea’s KOSPI dropped more than 8% during the session and reached a three-month low, triggering a market-wide circuit breaker. Japan’s Nikkei 225 declined around 4%, extending the regional technology selloff after the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index lost 2.2% overnight.
