Kuala Lumpur, 27 July 2026 – Private biometric information and building-access records collected by smart developments will not be automatically transferred into Malaysian government systems as the country expands its artificial intelligence-enabled cities network.
Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo said the development of Malaysia as an AI-driven nation was not intended to create a mass-surveillance system. Any transfer of personal information must have a clear legal basis and comply with the country’s data-protection framework.
