Bank Indonesia Seen Raising Rate to 6% as Rupiah Stability Takes Priority

Jakarta, 22 July 2026 – Bank Indonesia is expected to raise its benchmark interest rate by 25 basis points to 6% in a closely divided policy decision, placing rupiah stability ahead of concerns that further monetary tightening could weaken domestic growth.

The anticipated increase would extend an aggressive tightening cycle that has lifted the policy rate from 4.75% in April to 5.75% in June. Policymakers have responded to persistent currency pressure, global market volatility and the risk that rising energy and import costs could feed into domestic inflation.
