Kuala Lumpur, 16 June 2026 – Malaysia’s domestic tourism sector strengthened in 2025, with spending reaching RM121.3 billion as Malaysians travelled more actively across states, supporting hotels, restaurants, transport operators, retailers and local tourism businesses.
The stronger performance highlights the growing importance of domestic travel as a pillar of Malaysia’s consumer economy. While international tourism often receives greater attention, domestic tourism provides a more stable base of demand because it is driven by Malaysians travelling within the country for holidays, family visits, shopping, food, events and short breaks.
