American Express to Buy TheFork for US$700 Million as Dining Becomes a Premium Card Battleground

New York, 15 June 2026 – American Express will acquire TheFork, Tripadvisor’s restaurant-booking platform, in a US$700 million all-cash deal, strengthening its position in dining, travel and lifestyle experiences as premium card issuers compete more aggressively for high-spending consumers.

The acquisition will expand American Express’ dining network to 75,000 bookable venues and deepen its international reach, particularly in Europe, where TheFork connects diners with more than 50,000 restaurants across 11 countries.
