PETRONAS Carigali, a wholly owned subsidiary of PETRONAS, achieved its first hydrocarbon production from the Bindu offshore field on 9 June 2025, marking a major milestone since it assumed operatorship of the Gas Production Sharing Contract (GPSC) on 1 April 2025.
The Bindu development, situated 210 km off Terengganu, features a locally fabricated, unmanned wellhead platform powered by solar energy, connected via 62 km of pipeline to the Guntong E production hub. Designed as the final greenfield project under the current GPSC, it is expected to reach peak output of 75 million standard cubic feet of gas per day from just two wells.
Operating with a 50% stake—alongside ExxonMobil Exploration and Production Malaysia Inc.—PETRONAS Carigali’s CEO Hazli Sham Kassim emphasised that this production proves the company’s operational readiness and enhances Malaysia’s gas security. The GPSC portfolio supplies nearly half of Peninsular Malaysia’s gas needs—supporting industries, power plants, and SMEs.
With this success, PETRONAS Carigali continues to demonstrate its upstream prowess through strategic, sustainable developments that reinforce energy resilience for the nation.
