Meta Moves 7,000 Workers Into AI Roles Ahead of Planned Job Cuts

MENLO PARK, 18 May 2026 – Meta Platforms is preparing another major restructuring as the social media giant shifts thousands of employees into artificial intelligence-related roles ahead of planned job cuts, underscoring how deeply AI is reshaping the technology workforce.

According to an internal document reported by Reuters, Meta plans to restructure parts of its organisation on 20 May, with about 7,000 employees expected to be reassigned to AI-focused initiatives. The restructuring is also expected to include job cuts affecting around 10% of Meta’s global workforce, with notifications to affected employees set to take place in waves across different regions.
