Xpeng Begins Mass Production of Robotaxis in Guangzhou as China’s Autonomous Mobility Race Accelerates

GUANGZHOU, 18 May 2026 – Chinese electric vehicle maker Xpeng has begun mass production of its first robotaxi in Guangzhou, marking a major step in the company’s push beyond conventional electric vehicles into autonomous mobility, artificial intelligence and robotics.

The robotaxi is being produced at Xpeng’s headquarters in Guangzhou and is based on the company’s GX platform. According to Reuters, Xpeng describes the model as China’s first production-ready, pre-assembled robotaxi developed entirely with in-house technologies. Pilot operations are scheduled to begin in the second half of 2026, with the company targeting fully driverless operations by early 2027.
