BMI Expects Bank Negara to Hold OPR at 2.75% in July as Inflation Remains Contained

Kuala Lumpur, 11 May 2026 – Bank Negara Malaysia is expected to keep the Overnight Policy Rate unchanged at 2.75% at its next Monetary Policy Committee meeting on 9 July 2026, as inflation remains contained and Malaysia’s economic growth outlook stays broadly resilient.

BMI, a unit of Fitch Solutions, expects the central bank to maintain its current policy stance following Bank Negara’s latest decision on 7 May 2026, when the OPR was kept unchanged at 2.75%. The view reflects expectations that price pressures will remain manageable despite external uncertainty and higher global commodity risks.
