AI Expected to Add Up to RM20 Billion Annually to Malaysia’s GDP by 2030

Putrajaya, 5 May 2026 – Artificial intelligence is expected to contribute between RM13 billion and RM20 billion annually to Malaysia’s gross domestic product by 2030, reinforcing the technology’s growing role as a national growth engine and a key pillar of the country’s digital economy strategy.

Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo said Malaysia’s AI opportunity is no longer theoretical, with adoption expected to generate measurable economic value across industries, government services and high-skilled employment. The projected contribution represents about 0.8% to 1.2% of GDP, while AI-related development could also create between 300,000 and 500,000 high-skilled jobs by 2030.
