Beijing, 1 May 2026 – China is expanding its role in global economic governance by hosting a growing network of international bodies spanning banking, mediation, data policy and artificial intelligence, as Beijing seeks to present itself as a stronger platform for multilateral cooperation.
The latest addition is the World Data Organization, launched in Beijing on 30 March, which aims to align national data policies, develop industry standards and reduce compliance costs for multinational companies. The organisation has about 200 members across 40 countries, including companies, universities, think tanks and financial institutions.
