KULIM, 8 March 2026 – Malaysia’s Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has approved more than RM20 million in funding to upgrade infrastructure at the General Operations Force (GOF) camp in Kulim, Kedah, as well as several pondok religious schools in the region.

The allocation is aimed at improving critical facilities, including essential utilities and learning infrastructure, reflecting the government’s continued focus on strengthening both national security infrastructure and community education initiatives.

RM18 Million for GOF Camp Upgrades

A significant portion of the funding, about RM18 million, will be used to upgrade the piping and electrical wiring systems at the Kulim GOF camp.

Officials said the improvements are necessary to ensure safer and more reliable infrastructure for security personnel stationed at the camp, which plays a key role in maintaining national security and border operations.

The General Operations Force is a specialised unit within the Royal Malaysia Police responsible for handling security threats, border patrol operations and tactical missions.

Support for Pondok Religious Schools

In addition to the GOF camp upgrades, part of the allocation will be directed toward pondok religious schools, which are traditional Islamic learning institutions that provide religious education and community-based learning.

The funding will help improve facilities and support the educational environment for students studying in these institutions.

Pondok schools have historically played an important role in Malaysia’s Islamic education system, particularly in rural areas where they often serve as centres for religious scholarship and community activities.

Strengthening Community and Security Infrastructure

The funding announcement reflects the government’s broader strategy of strengthening infrastructure at both security facilities and community institutions.

Officials say investments in facilities such as the GOF camp are important to ensure operational readiness for security forces, while support for pondok schools contributes to the development of religious education and social cohesion.

The approval also highlights the government’s approach to balancing national security needs with investments in local educational institutions.
