PayPal Partners with Bilt and Venmo to Enable Rent and Mortgage Payments via App

NEW YORK, 27 October 2025 – PayPal Holdings, Inc. and Venmo have announced a strategic partnership with Bilt Rewards, Inc. to allow users to make rent and mortgage payments through the Venmo app beginning early next year.

The initiative is intended to broaden Venmo’s payment-use cases from peer-to-peer and commerce transactions into high-frequency, high-dollar items such as monthly housing payments. Under the agreement, Bilt Rewards members will be able to pay rent or mortgages using Venmo and earn loyalty points via Bilt’s platform. The arrangement underscores PayPal’s efforts to deepen digital-wallet engagement and tap recurring payment flows.

From an Asian investor and fintech-ecosystem perspective, the development carries several noteworthy implications. First, it signals how major U.S. fintech operators are expanding payment rails into unconventional areas, which may drive competitive pressure in Asia’s digital-wallet markets. Second, the move underscores the monetisation potential of recurring payments (rent, mortgage) rather than just one-off purchases, this is relevant for Asian payment startups and banks exploring subscription or service-fee based models. Third, regional firms with partnerships or aspirations in remittance, cross-border rent payments or digital-wallet ecosystems may need to reconsider how global fintech players are evolving into adjacent markets.

Analysts will be watching how quickly Venmo users adopt the service and how PayPal handles regulatory, credit-risk and fraud-monitoring challenges for housing-payment flows. For Asia-based platforms, the competitive signal is clear: if digital-wallet providers can successfully embed high-frequency payments like rent or mortgages, the share-of-wallet game will intensify.
