KUALA LUMPUR, 29 October 2025 — Maybank, Malaysia’s leading financial services group, has reaffirmed its commitment to driving digital banking adoption, having facilitated more than RM4 trillion in digital transactions since the launch of its MAE app in 2020.

With a transaction volume equivalent to twice Malaysia’s GDP, the milestone underscores Maybank’s pivotal role in advancing financial inclusion and digital connectivity across the nation and ASEAN.

Offering a comprehensive suite of banking and lifestyle features, the MAE app has become Malaysia’s preferred platform for everyday financial needs. Maybank continues to lead the country’s digital banking landscape, ranking first in both the number and value of transactions across key PayNet services, including DuitNow transfers and QR payments, FPX and JomPAY.

“Digital innovation has always been a cornerstone of Maybank Group’s strategy,” said Syed Ahmad Taufik Albar, Group CEO of Community Financial Services, Maybank. “Over the years, we have continued to transform the MAE app into an integrated financial lifestyle platform that addresses our customers’ evolving needs, enabling seamless, secure and personalised experiences.”

Taufik noted that the MAE app has driven remarkable growth in digital banking acceptance nationwide, reflecting its relevance and the trust placed in it by users.

“Today, we are proud to serve 10.7 million MAE users, representing a 48% market share of Malaysia’s mobile banking transaction volume. As we continue to enhance the app, our focus remains on shaping the digital banking experience of the future — one built around the lives of our customers.”

As the first bank in Malaysia to introduce QR payments in 2017, Maybank has been at the forefront of the country’s cashless transformation. The number of Scan & Pay transactions performed via the MAE app has grown 51-fold since 2020, with 2024 alone seeing a 26% increase in new merchant sign-ups, expanding acceptance across eateries and retail outlets nationwide.

According to Giorgio Migliarina, Group Chief Technology and Digital Officer, the MAE app reflects Maybank’s vision of building a smarter and more inclusive digital ecosystem that empowers customers to manage their finances with confidence, convenience and control.

“The MAE app has redefined everyday banking, blending lifestyle and financial features into a single platform. By helping Malaysians take charge of their financial goals, the app has enabled users to create nearly eight million Tabung savings goals, fostering better saving habits and long-term planning,” he said.

He added that nine out of ten MAE Wallet users actively rely on it for day-to-day transactions, citing security and ease of use as key reasons for their loyalty.

“This trust motivates us to continuously enhance the MAE app, ensuring even greater value and protection for our customers.”

For users who prefer to manage their spending and savings separately, the MAE Wallet offers flexibility with a limit of up to RM10,000, supported by the same robust security framework as Maybank’s savings and current accounts.

To celebrate the app’s fifth anniversary, Maybank has launched the MAE Turns 5 campaign, rewarding loyal customers with 5% per annum returns on deposits of RM200 and above into their MAE Wallet. The campaign runs from 30 October 2025 to 31 January 2026, with returns calculated on a daily rest basis for funds maintained until the end of the campaign.

Customers must key in the recipient reference ‘MAETurns5’ before 30 November 2025 to qualify.
