JOHOR BAHRU, 27 October 2025 — Huawei Technologies (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (Huawei Malaysia) has partnered with the Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Johor Branch to nurture high-calibre, interdisciplinary digital talent through the establishment of a Huawei ICT Academy at UiTM Johor.
The academy aims to strengthen UiTM’s digital ecosystem by leveraging Huawei’s global expertise and industry-recognised certification programmes in key technology domains such as 5G, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Cloud Computing. This collaboration seeks to bridge the gap between academia and industry, equipping Malaysia’s youth with the skills needed to thrive in the digital economy.
The partnership was formalised with a Letter of Intent (LoI) signed during Huawei’s Intelligent World 2035 event in Segamat, Johor, a programme that featured seminars and workshops highlighting the latest trends and career opportunities in AI, cloud, and 5G technologies. The event also explored how intelligent platforms are transforming sectors, including healthcare, food, energy, urban mobility, and digital trust.
Officiating the event, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories), Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa, noted that Malaysia’s success in building an intelligent future depends on close collaboration between government, industry, and academia.
“Technology is only part of the story. For this vision to be inclusive, sustainable, and meaningful, we must invest in people — by building digital literacy, ensuring access across all socioeconomic groups, and safeguarding privacy and trust,” she said.
“By fostering innovation and supporting homegrown talent, we can reduce reliance on external technologies and ensure data sovereignty, a critical foundation for our nation’s technological independence.”
Huawei’s Intelligent World 2035 vision envisions a future where the convergence of AI, cloud computing, and advanced connectivity, including 5.5G and 6G, makes intelligent solutions as accessible as necessities. The initiative also aims to inspire Malaysia’s youth by linking theoretical learning with real-world applications in emerging technologies.
Associate Professor Dr Saunah Zainon, who is also the Acting Rector of UiTM Johor, said the partnership reflects UiTM’s commitment to advancing national digital capability.
“UiTM is dedicated to developing skilled individuals who understand advanced technologies, especially AI. By combining Huawei’s expertise and global resources with our academic strength and community engagement, we can provide significant value not only to our students but also to the wider Johor community,” she said.
Simon Sun, Chief Executive Officer of Huawei Malaysia, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to cultivating local digital talent.
“The Huawei ICT Academy was created as a bridge between academia and industry, aligning educational output with industry needs,” he said. “Its mission is to equip students with the skills, knowledge, and global exposure required to thrive in the digital economy, enhancing their career prospects and employability.”
Students from participating institutions have consistently excelled in the Huawei ICT Competition, showcasing world-class innovation and technical expertise on the global stage.
To date, Huawei Malaysia has trained more than 54,000 individuals in digital skills, surpassing its initial 2025 target of 50,000, underscoring the company’s strong commitment to developing Malaysia’s digital workforce and supporting the nation’s transformation into an intelligent, connected society.
